The U.S. Forest Service is planning some much-needed maintenance at the airstrip beginning Monday May 1, extending through Saturday May 6. The scheduled work will include re-painting markers, cutting brush, trash removal, moving the outhouse, and they will also have the mules out on the runway doing dirt work.A NOTAM will be issued to facilitate the USFS work from 05/01  through  05/05.  Landing between Monday May 1 and Friday a.m. May 5 is not recommended, but the NOTAM will not identify the airstrip as closed. Airstrip will be available for landing and camping beginning Friday (05/5) afternoon.We are requesting volunteers to support some final work on Saturday, May 6. No need to bring any tools, just sturdy work boots and gloves. I plan to arrive either Friday evening or Saturday morning and camp at the pullout located midfield. If you can, please join us at Mahoney, plan on camping Saturday night and let’s kick off the summer flying season together.
