Cayuse Creek Airstrip

FAA Code: C64 Latitude: 46.6665842
Elevation: 3505 Longitude: -115.0731811

IAA District 2 - Director Bill Ables (541) 263-1327 The FAA has assigned Cayuse Creek the identifier code C64. For many years, this airstrip was listed as "Restricted" on FAA charts, meaning planned landings could not be made without permission from the Forest Service. With encouragement from the Idaho Airstrip Network, that designation was removed in early 2011. The airstrip's turf surface is good by backcountry standards, although not regularly maintained. There are no camping facilities at the airstrip, but wilderness camping and good fishing are available along Cayuse Creek.

Pilot Reports

Observation Date: June 19, 2018
Damp but firm. Pretty rough. Lots of Prarrie Dog mounds. Needs to be rolled and mowed. Pretty long grass. Fine for big tires and well equipped bush birds. Not for low powered small tire birds. River running clean but fast and high. Still too high to wade flyfish.

Observation Date: October 19, 2018
Wanted to pass on that I flew into Cayuse on 10/19/2018 and with help from off-duty Forest Service person, put up new windsock (24 inch sock on 18 inch frame but works OK) and serviced bearings in windsock frame. Have two gallons of white paint and will get segmented circle painted up next spring. (Helicopter was in shop for part of summer so couldn't get out there and get painting done this year.)

Observation Date: March 30, 2019
Flew into Cayuse airstrip with helicopter on 3/30/2019. Snow gauge was showing about 22 inches of snow, down from about 31 inches 9 days previous. Snow was heavy, wet and soft. Sinking in to my knees walking around.

Observation Date: April 15, 2019
Flew into Cayuse with helicopter. Airstrip still snow covered to depth of about 10 inches of soft heavy wet snow. One ski-equipped fixed wing aircraft had landed in last day or two.
