Lower Loon Airstrip
IAA District 6 - Director Mike Hart 208-528-7672 email@example.com. Formerly owned by J.R. Simplot, Loon Creek now belongs to Idaho Fish & Game. Even though the airstrip has had an "R" designation for many years, it has been open to the public willing to brave the short, technical runway. The "R" will be removed on future FAA charts. There is a wildnerness campground at the mouth of Loon Creek, but it often is occupied by rafters floating the Middle Fork. There is a wonderful hot springs about a mile upstream. In 2018 RWY was resurfaced. 1 set of tie downs. No winter maintenance.
Observation Date: June 02, 2018
Short grass and dirt on main line, with growing rolling bumps at touchdown zone. Grass on sides is growing tall but still suitable for parking. Did not observe (but didn't look too hard either) rodent activity on main runway surface.
Airstrip Classification: WILD
Airstrips may have basic navigation aids such as windsock and runway markers and limited or no user facilities. Typically located in the remotest settings away from roads and communities.
Maintenance: Clear hazardous vegetation from approaches, remove obstacles, treat noxious weeds and maintain useable airstrip surface.
