Big Bar Airstrip
IAA volunteers have been making improvements to this short airstrip during the last few years. The grass and dirt runway surface is in good condition by backcountry standards. In keeping with an agreement with administrators of the Hells Canyon National Recreation area, the volunteers assemble an outhouse in the fall and disassemble it in the spring so that river users don't see it during the summer boating season. Dispersed camping at unimproved sites. Take a 3.5 mile hike down river to visit the USFS Kirkwood Museum Complex.

This pilot report does NOT deal with Big Bar, but rather Temperance Creek, across the river on the Oregon side.
The Temperance Creek runway has, located midway and in the middle, an "X" made of rocks. It appears that an aircraft could not safely get around either side of this rock "X".
