Dug Bar (OR8) New Year’s Morning Fly-In
Every year we do our best to have a fun start to the New Year by flying in to Dug Bar (OR8), on the Oregon side of Hells Canyon.
People start showing up early if the weather is good, later if it’s so-so, and not at all if it’s lousy!!!
In the past we’ve had everything from one airplane (Bill Ables, your host) to 49 airplanes come in, all weather-dependent.
This is the one Hells Canyon fly-in where there’s no work involved, just a happy New Year hangout with friends!
We do ask that you bring a couple of pieces of firewood for the fire. Thanks!
Note that it’s not unusual for the weather to be clear in the Treasure Valley or NE Oregon, and have fog or clouds in the Canyon, meaning it’s socked in. In that case, come back another day!
Be sure to study your Idaho Aeronautical Chart, which clearly shows the nasty wires a few miles north of the airstrip; you don’t want anything to do with those!
