TRAVEL DETAILS
Everything looks good as far as the roads go. It is a long drive, currently the road from McDermitt is washed out, so the best route is from Paradise Valley. Starting at the Sinclair gas station on Highway 95 north of Winnemucca) The route is as follows:
Starting at Highway 95, it’s 17.9 miles on paved roads to the small town of Paradise Valley, NV. From there, it’s another 48.6 miles of good, well maintained, fast (30-40 MPH) BLM gravel roads, which are followed by 22.5 of decent but slow (10-15 MPH) BLM dirt roads into Star Valley.
We will also have hauled in all the materials to out up a new windsock, build a new outhouse, assemble a couple picnic tables, and steel for a fire pit for the camping area.
The weekend goals are:
- Mow and rough in the new airstrip, get the grass and brush knocked back enough that it’s landable for at least big-tired Cub type aircraft to start. Currently an old hay meadow. Estimated 15/33, 1000-1200’
- Mow in an aircraft tie-down /camping area and install tie downs.
- Install new windsock pole and windsock.
- Dig new outhouse hole at parking area and build new outhouse.
- Assemble a couple picnic table kits.
- Stain picnic tables and new outhouse.
- Minor road repairs at the Little Owyhee crossing
- Haul out garbage / trash.
- Have fun and build community!
