It is recommended that all GA operations occur in the morning or very late afternoon for density altitude and to avoid very busy glider operations. Unpowered aircraft always have the right of way.
It’s Back and “All Birds are Welcome!”
This free event, just east of Sun Valley Idaho, promises beautiful late-summer soaring days and cool nights, awesome glass off flights and cloud bases well above the Big Lost River Mountains – fly to Montana or Yellowstone!
The week kicks off on Saturday, August 31. The King Mountain Glider Park is an Idaho 501c3 non-profit dedicated to the long term vision of promoting and supporting the gliding arts in the big mountains and the big air of east-central Idaho.
Join us for a week with like-minded soaring pilots as paragliders, hang gliders, sailplanes and “locals” share climbs with one another. When conditions allow, attempt a new altitude personal best in the Wave Window! In the evenings, share stories and enjoy the stargazing around the campfire.
The surrounding area offers plenty to do and explore outside of flying or on weather days such as hiking, mountain biking and fishing.
Free camping at the Glider Park. Big Air and Big Country! Lions, tigers, and bears…Oh my! A satellite-based tracking device* (Garmin In-Reach, Spot, etc.) is strongly recommended.
Call John to RSVP: (208) 407-7174.
*Good manners never go out of style, which is a good reason to add your tracking device shared page to the “King Mountain Safari” group on https://www.xctrack.me/. It is easy, free, and provides your soaring pilots with live tracking peace of mind as to your location.
