McCall Airport (MYL) Open House

McCall Open House,  Family-Friendly Event on Saturday June 22, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.! This event gets bigger and more fun every year. Expect a fun-filled day with over 20 vendors, engaging speakers, exciting displays, lessons from backcountry flying, and vintage and unique aircraft, including a P-51 Mustang “Diamondback.”

In honor of the 40th Anniversary of naming of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, the theme this year is “Return to the Wilderness.” Your Flyline Editor, Crista Worthy, will present a fast-paced, entertaining slideshow with over 100 historic photos, explaining how aviation has been a crucial part of Idaho’s backcountry and why aviation was specifically written into the 1980 Central Idaho Wilderness Act that created both the River of No Return Wilderness and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Pick up a copy of her book, Idaho Aviation, an Idaho Aeronautical Chart, or an Idaho backcountry poster at the IAA booth!

You can also pick up a copy of the adorable poster for this year, designed by McCall’s City Communications Manager, Erin Greaves.

Food?? Of course! Txo Txo’s Dog House Basque food truck, Salmon River Brewery, and Sandbar Shave Ice will be on hand!

Helicopter rides for kids! Plus, The P-51 Mustang Diamondback, along with many other unique and vintage aircraft, will be on display.

USFS Smokejumpers will give tours of the Twin Otter smokejumper plane!

Meet Kaya the red-tailed hawk from Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary.

And of course, the recreation of the Great Beaver Drop around 11:15! Before the drop, kids can predict where the beaver (a stuffed toy—not a real one this time!) will fall when dropped from an airplane above. The child who guesses closest to the actual spot wins the beaver and a copy of Susan Wood’s wonderful children’s book, The Skydiving Beavers, A True Tale.other gifts. Don’t miss out!
