Mark and Gayla Perini, long-time IAA members, are hosting a “Fly Out” to visit the WAAAM (Home – Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (waaamuseum.org)) July “TRAFFIC JAM” event. Attendees are advised to arrive at 4S2 airport Saturday morning (museum opens at 9 a.m.). All IAA members are welcome to join us. The group will be camping and socializing “under our wings” on the airport grounds Saturday night. Departures Sunday morning at your leisure. A group catered dinner will be held Saturday night – advance reservations/payment are required to participate in the dinner.
Dinner Details:
After a day of exploring the museum, we plan a 4:30 p.m. “no host” BYOB Happy Hour and Appetizers. Make sure you bring “camp chairs” and your favorite beverages to drink or share. Please bring an appetizer and/or dessert that travels well to share. Apple Valley BBQ will serve us a pulled pork and chicken dinner with all the fixings. Cost for dinner is $34 per person tip and delivery included. To participate in dinner you must register via the event website… payment can be handled after registration via venmo, check, or cash. Your reservation confirmation email will have payment instructions. Due to catering requirements, dinner registration will close two weeks prior to the event on Sunday June 25th… so please register early.
WAAM is a real “jewel” of a museum with a fleet of operating vintage aircraft, automobiles and motorcycles–Including the very first airplane owned by the state of Idaho–a Travel Air 4D (see photo) purchased by Aeronautics in 1931! During the “Traffic Jam” events, they showcase their vintage automobile fleet with an outside “car show.” Often they will be flying several of the vintage airplanes and may be possible to purchase a sightseeing flight in one of them. Given the popularity of the Traffic Jam events it will be busy, so use caution entering and operating in the pattern. Jernstedt Field is a paved 07/25 3,040’ strip with an alternate grass landing area south of the paved runway. WAAAM is located on the airport. Prior to the event we will communicate with all attendees on location to park/camp on the field.
